International students taking afternoon tea at Sibford school

Sibford School international students enjoyed learning about quintessential English traditions. They made, baked, served and ate a typical afternoon tea.

Out came the bone china cups and saucers! The tea pot was warmed and there were lots of tasty offerings. Students enjoyed finger sandwiches, cupcakes and scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The students also discovered the contrasting traditions of Devon and Cornwall. They discussed whether they preferred their jam on top of the cream or below!

One Sibford student, Emily, loved the experience. She joined the school from Markkleeberg, and said: “It was a great lesson and really enjoyable. We learned all about the different types of food that make up a typical English afternoon tea. I am now looking forward to making some scones for my brother next time I go back home to Germany.”

We’re glad to know she’ll be sharing some delicious English traditions with her family!
