York’s Bootham School reaches final of prestigious education awards

Bootham School has been named a national finalist in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026, placing it among some of the country’s leading independent schools.

The York school is one of just six finalists nationwide in the Independent Boarding School of the Year category, with winners due to be announced in October.

The recognition reflects a school community where everyone is encouraged to contribute, from older students mentoring younger pupils as they develop confidence and independence, to academic staff running evening masterclasses and activities that enrich boarders’ experience beyond the school day. At the heart of the school’s boarding provision is a belief that every individual has something valuable to offer, helping to create a culture built on kindness, trust and a strong sense of belonging.
