Writing in Isolation

- 16 July 2020 -

Leighton Park students have been hard at work throughout the lock down on a project called ‘Writing in Isolation’. The English Department challenged the students to create original, creative writings. While spending time at home and maintaining social distancing, they’ve reflected on the experience.

Each week, the students try their skills at a different form of writing. The three winning entries get published on the school’s website for everyone to enjoy. You can view them here.

Recent writing styles have included poetry, articles and narrative. The winning pieces in each category cover a wide variety of topics as students reflect on the world and their experiences. They’ve written on understanding identities, creating an equal world, and raising awareness for the environmental crisis.

Students from all year groups have submitted very impressive entries. Leana Mikula, English teacher and competition judge says that:

“I am incredibly proud of this wonderful group of students who have used the lock down to not only develop their writing, but to use writing as a platform to explore and give voice to their ideas and emotions. Even though we have been writing “in isolation”, it is clear that they are united in their love for the written word. The passion they show is inspiring. I wish them all the best of luck and happiness in their future adventures in writing.”

We’ve really enjoyed reading through your Writing in Isolation entries. Good work everyone – keep it up!
