Marathon success for The Mount School

- 18 June 2020 -

Pupils of The Mount School have achieved marathon success with their running efforts! Answering the challenge set out by the City of York Athletics Club, two sisters have run the equivalent of a marathon – an incredible 42.2km!

Sisters Rosie (year 10) and Libby (year 8) teamed up to cover the distance. During their online games lessons, the girls set out running around the Knavesmire and along the riverbank in York.

Over the week, they ran between 3 and 10km each and kept a running total of the distance they covered. Both girls ran over half a marathon each as they worked towards their goal.

Rosie explained that:

“Throughout the week Libby and I clocked up the distance running between 3 and 10 km in a session. We both ran over half a marathon each, and we completed the marathon distance in 3 hours and 53 minutes.”

She goes on to talk about how much she misses being at school, while students have been learning from home:

“What I miss the most is being in school and doing clubs and activities during breaks and after school. Also, not seeing everyone in my year every day, and not being able to talk face to face with them, is something I really miss.”

Rosie is however enjoying her digital lessons and the way technology can be used to bring her and her classmates together.

She says: “Online school is really working well I think at the moment. I think it is fun to do, and a different way of learning to what we do in school. It is also nice that we still get to hear from everyone on video chats.”

It’s great to hear how well pupils at The Mount have adapted to learning away from school. We love to find out what activities they’re getting involved with to keep active and healthy. Well done Rosie and Libby, keep up the great work!
