Kenyan Quaker Schools Visit to Bootham
Bootham School was delighted to welcome their first visitors from a Kenyan Quaker School to York. During their visit, the students and two group leaders retraced some of George Fox’s footsteps. They visited York Minster, and saw the south transept steps down which George Fox was thrown in December 1651. They then travelled West, to see Pendle Hill, Firbank fell and Brigflatts Meeting, all part of “1652 country”.
Bootham teacher Mike Shaw helped host the visit. He said: “We also took the group to visit the ruins of the prison cell at Scarborough Castle, where Fox was held in 1665. The prison bars may have gone, but George Fox’s ideas have travelled around the world.
“The visit was a great success and the links we have formed with the Kenyan Quaker School will remain!”
