Celebrations for Sidcot School’s GCSE students

A week after celebrating the results of A Level and BTEC students, Sidcot School welcomed Year 11 students and their families to campus to celebrate their fantastic GCSE and BTEC Level 2 results.
Students performed brilliantly across various subjects, achieving grades significantly higher than the national average. 29% of all grades were 9-7 (A*-A), and 89% were 9-4 (A*-C), far exceeding the national average of 70.7%.
As a non-selective day and boarding school, Sidcot offers a variety of GCSE, IGCSE and BTEC subjects for its Year 11 students and a specialist one-year IGCSE pathway programme for international students.
The true measure of a Sidcot education lies in the incredible progress individual students make. As a cohort, Sidcot’s Year 11 students achieved an outstanding value-added score of 0.8 meaning that, on average, their results were nearly a full grade higher than might have been expected based on their prior attainment.
Caitlin, a school scholar, achieved a remarkable eight 9’s, 8 and a 7 and said, “I’m really pleased with my results, and so thankful for all the amazing teaching and experiences I received at Sidcot. The student-focussed environment at Sidcot really allowed me to explore my interests further and grow as a student.”
Academic Scholar Jacob achieved an outstanding seven GCSEs between 9 and 7 and a distinction in BTEC Sport. He said,
“I’m incredibly happy with my results today and very grateful to all my teachers who have supported and encouraged me throughout my studies. They have helped me achieve as much as I have while also inspiring me to develop a genuine passion for the subjects I’ve studied. I’m excited to take the next step and continue pursuing the subjects I’m most passionate about.”
Janka, an international student who joined Sidcot on the one-year IGCSE Pathway programme, achieved grade 7 and higher in all her subjects, securing her place at Sidcot Sixth Form. Janka commented on her results, “I am thrilled with my results today and excited to continue my journey at Sidcot for Sixth Form. I am incredibly grateful that my teachers have been fantastic, providing endless support and encouragement leading up to my GCSEs.”
Maud, a Music Scholar attained five 9s, 8, 7 and three 6s and will continue at Sidcot to pursue the IB Diploma, a popular alternative to A Levels. Sidcot is one of the few schools near Bristol that provides this challenging diploma.
Maud commented, “I’m really proud of my exam results! I’m so pleased that my hard work has paid off. I also want to send a huge thank you to all the teachers who really helped me and encouraged me to work my hardest. Their support was a gift. I am really excited to continue at Sidcot next year and begin my IB studies. Congratulations to all my fellow students who were in the exam hall with me!”
Commenting on the results, James Jones, Head, said, “We are very pleased to celebrate the achievements of our GCSE students. Their results reflect the hard work, commitment and determination they have shown throughout their studies.
Behind these results lie many individual stories of young people exploring new ideas, developing their interests and pursuing subjects they are passionate about. While we are proud of their academic achievements, we are equally proud of the young adults they have become during their time at Sidcot. They have developed the skills, confidence and resilience that will equip them for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school, as well as the character and values that will enable them to make a positive contribution to the world around them.
We look forward to welcoming many of them back to Sidcot in September to continue their studies on our A-level, BTEC and IB courses.”
